The Git Hayetsk Dancers, challenge themselves to continue to practice the artistry and cultural wealth to the standards that is embodied by the copper shield, while living in the beautiful and unceeded area of Coast Salish territory that is now called Vancouver, British Columbia. Their priority is to both continue and expand our ancient traditions in contemporary times and as such they sing the songs of ancestors as well as create new songs, dances, drums, rattles, masks, and regalia to reflect and record our experiences as First Nations people today.

Their dancers are bonded by their common ancestry to the Sm’algyak speaking peoples with distinctions in their family ties to the Haida, Tlingit, Haisla, and Musqueam Nations. Our home and ancestral villages are located in Southeast Alaska, Vancouver BC and along the coastline of the Terrace-Prince Rupert area including the Nass and Skeena Rivers.Since 2003, they have shared their songs and dances at ceremonial and public events in urban and rural communities through Canada, the US, and abroad including British Columbia, Ontario, Manitoba, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Ohio, Hawaii, Washington DC, Austria, Malaysia, Germany, and Japan.

And here’s another fun band to look forward to!

The Whyte Feather Band consists mainly of Squamish band members from North Vancouver. The band originated in the 1960s and disbanded in the 80s briefly. Their music largely consists of rock & roll, blues. They also play songs written by amongst themselves and their past band members. They enjoy playing because they love playing. Their last big show was the Elders Gathering up in Abbotsford. The Whyte Feather Band performs at numerous events; these events include New Years Eve dances, weddings and birthdays, but mostly at the Joe Mathias Centre on the Squamish Nation lands in North Vancouver. If you can’t get enough of them, the Whyte Feather Band will be performing at the Croatian Centre on June 22nd!
